Our Statement on the Outcome of the Referendum
15/10/2023
Our ongoing commitment

In recognition of the outcome of the referendum on establishing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice to Parliament in Australia, we want to express our continued commitment to meaningful change and our unwavering dedication to working with First Nation communities.

We will continue in our efforts to partner with and support First Nations communities, working towards truth-telling about Australia’s history, advocating for Nation-based treaties and the creation of impactful avenues for the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to have a say on matters that impact their lives – voice, treaty and truth.

The referendum result is not an end but rather a moment that demonstrates the deep work that needs to be done in the journey towards a more inclusive, equitable, and just Australia.

We will continue to listen, learn, and work alongside First Nations peers, community members, and leaders in pursuit of this.

We recognise the harm resulting from this fractious process and will continue looking at ways to support opportunities for First Nations communities to come together to connect and heal.
